1.0 Her Birth

Notes: I apologise for the poor quality screenshots. I converted them to JPG so that the pics wouldn’t take all the cloud space of my blog. I’ll try to find a workaround for the next chapters. – Anyway, I hope you’ll enjoy the journey that we begin now!

In the beginning there were only the islands and the sea. It continued to be so until the first human set foot on the islands. She emerged from the sea, young and beautiful, gifted with spiritual powers. Nobody knows where she came from. Some think she was sent by gods to oversee the islands. Others say she is one of the Mer who came to land.

The First Human, a beautiful woman, set her foot on the islands. She came smiling and content, eager to fulfill her purpose in the world she was born into.

Many sunrises and sundowns passed as she struggled to find her way in the new world. She was often cold, hungry, and lonely. She slept under the stars and ate what little she could find around the island.

However miserable she was, the sea was her consolation. When in water, she felt warm and content, as if she had been sleeping in her mother’s womb. But she was ailing, ridden with diseases and hunger. She sent a wish to the heavens.

Morning after another passed until one day, she woke up to a blinding blue light. She looked around; hazy blue figures were dancing around her fire pit. They were spirits of nature. They had heard her cries and had come to welcome her.

Curious, she reached her hand towards the lingering light. Her hand met the spirit’s. A wave of warmth passed through her. In a blink of an eye, all her ailments were gone. She was no longer cold, hungry, or ridden with diseases. In awe, she thanked the spirits and vowed to always honor and serve them.

The spirits saw that her heart was pure. They embraced her and blessed her by giving her the heart of one of their kind. When the first human opened her eyes, the world she saw around her was brighter and clearer than before. Divine enlightenment had cleared her vision.

She called forth the one who had sent the spirits. Suddenly, a vision of a man appeared before her. He was an island elemental, guardian of the islands and their life. He was strong and beautiful. The first human greeted the elemental.

“You have done a great deed, human”, said the elemental. “In your suffering and ailments you never once gave up hope. You will serve the spirits well. – Ask and you shall receive. If ever you need guidance, seek within your soul and find us, the elementals. We will be there to guide you with your mission.”

And true to his words, he gave advice to the first human. She learned how to cook and build a homestead.

She worked day and night to build a home. Her hard work yielded results. She no longer had to tremble in the cold night air. Every day she had a warm meal, a luxury she could not have imagined.

At times she stopped to gaze at the sea. It bathed in golden sunlight. The sea called her; she didn’t know why. She yearned to explore the world. She had become lonely. Maybe she would find a companion to share her home with.

As she looked at the sun on its journey under the sea, she made up her mind. She would not have to be alone for the rest of her life. She would fulfill her destiny. She would definitely do it and build a monument for the spirits who once helped her.

Her name was Ke’alohilani, “the heavenly brightness” or “the bright sky”.

  1. Lovely – I’m looking forward to seeing more. If you ask me you don’t have to make the screenshots better quality – they look just fine 🙂
